What is Thrive Licensed Practitioner training?

Thrive Licensed Practitioner training empowers you to actively develop the wellbeing and resilience of the children you work with, leading to improved attendance, behaviour, attainment and staff wellbeing.

The 3-month programme is designed to equip professionals, such as teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs and pastoral staff, with the skills and knowledge to effectively support children’s social and emotional development. The training is grounded in neuroscience, attachment theory and child development research, helping you to understand the links between brain development and behaviour.

Using Thrive-Online, you’ll learn to assess and respond to the developmental needs of the children you work with. This includes implementing targeted action plans of practical strategies and activities to support wellbeing and learning, and measuring progress over time.

By completing the training, you’ll earn Thrive Licensed Practitioner status – a highly regarded and sought-after qualification within the education sector and beyond.

“I’m able to deal with disruptive behaviour in a positive way and feel more confident guiding colleagues to do the same. Some children who had previously displayed disruptive behaviour have dramatically changed, becoming calm, productive members of their class.”

“You can’t progress more sophisticated things like phonics, reading and writing if a school is like the Wild West. Thrive’s principles and practices have helped us to identify individual needs and to respond accordingly so that our children feel settled and ready to learn.”

Frequently asked questions

Are there any specific requirements for Thrive Licensed Practitioner training?

To fully benefit from this practical, hands-on course and achieve Licensed Practitioner status, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Work with children over time: The training is designed to provide you with tools and techniques to use in real-world settings. To apply what you learn and qualify for professional licensing, you’ll need to be actively working with children during the training period. Evidence of this will be required.
  • Commit to full attendance: Attending all sessions is essential to gaining the knowledge and skills needed for Licensed Practitioner status.
What is Thrive’s Wise Investment Guarantee?

Thrive Licensed Practitioner training is covered by Thrive's Wise Investment Guarantee. This means that if a Licensed Practitioner leaves a setting within 12 months of starting their course, we'll train another member of staff for free within 12 months of the original start date.

Is face-to-face training available?

For settings that would like to commission a face-to-face training session, there is a flat rate charge of £470 per trainer per day (or part thereof) plus VAT.

Does the course help with supporting pupils with SEND?

Thrive Licensed Practitioner training focuses on promoting pupils’ social and emotional wellbeing, which often aligns closely with the needs of pupils with SEND. Many children with SEND face challenges in managing emotions, building resilience, or navigating social interactions, and this course equips you with the tools and strategies to support these areas effectively.

However, the programme does not specifically cover areas such as SEND assessment, early identification of SEND, or targeted teaching strategies for specific needs like ASD, attachment and trauma, or dyslexia. While you’ll gain skills to foster an inclusive environment and address emotional barriers to learning, this course is not a dedicated SEND programme.

If your primary focus is SEND-specific support, you may need to explore additional qualifications tailored to those needs. That said, Licensed Practitioner training is an excellent choice for building expertise in helping all pupils, including those with SEND, thrive emotionally and socially.

For settings that would like to commission a face-to-face training session, there is a flat rate charge of £470 per trainer per day (or part thereof) plus VAT.

Do delegates get access to Thrive-Online?

Thrive Licensed Practitioner training includes a free 3-month trial of Thrive-Online, our award-winning assessment, action-planning and progress-monitoring tool.

Once qualified, are there ongoing commitments to maintain Thrive Licensed Practitioner status?

Yes, to retain your Thrive Licensed Practitioner status beyond the first year, you must:

  • Be connected to a setting with an active Thrive-Online subscription.
  • Complete two CPD courses each year.
These requirements ensure you stay up-to-date with the latest Thrive theory and practice and continue to provide the best support to the children you work with.
